Butterfingers?

I pretty much love all the latest and greatest in technology.  I’ve been known to grab acquaintances smart phones off tables and desks so I can get a closer look.

I’m currently sitting on my bed with a laptop (PC that I just got returned from the manufacturers repair depot… a story for another day), another laptop (a borrowed Mac), one jump drive in perfect condition and another that I somehow managed to bend (it still works though – so far) and an orange (ok the manufacturer calls it copper) cell phone that I’ve dropped so often that it looks like a dog has used it for a chew toy.

I will admit that some (most?) of my technical issues have been of my own doing.  I have managed to bump, scrap, sit on and drop most of my electronic equipment.  I dropped my first point and shoot digital camera on a hardwood floor while the lens was extended.  While I couldn’t get the lens to retract, I was able to sell the camera on eBay.  I also dropped a cell phone in a washing machine filled with water about 10 years ago.  On the advice of a technician, I dried the phone with a blow dryer and it worked like new!  Then there was the time when my sweet niece was about 2 years old and spotted me taping away on my PDA and said “Me do!”.   Being a sucker for cute, little ones, I let her “play” with the device that held ALL of my contacts and appointments.  She promptly dropped it on the hardwood floor.  When I picked up the gadget, I discovered it would never turn on again.  Fortunately, I’d just backed up the data the day before.

Maybe I could get a side job at one of those consumer product rating agencies as one of the people who destroy things.  I have plenty of experience.  Until then, maybe I should invest in some bubble wrap type protection for my yet to be broken portable electronics – or at least continue to purchase extended warranties on the purchases I make.

Are you rough on your portable electronics or maybe very good with them?  Tell me about it!

I’m back!

For those have been following my past blog posts – I’m Back!!!

I’ve been plagued with technical issues (I’m temporarily using a Mac, which is not compatible with my previous blog software) and have been building my empire (check out www.welchesters.com).

So as I continue to educate myself on better blogging, I plan to bring you more entertaining snippets of life as I see it.

Technology – Blessing or Curse?

I love electronic gadgets.  The every changing world of technology has allowed us to be connected constantly.  Though I appreciate the convenience, let me tell you about a few things that annoy me about technology:

1.   Useless email forwards – I don’t know about you, but I spend enough time going through the many legitimate electronic mail messages I receive without having to waste time with nonsense.  Useless emails include anything that ends with a suggestion that I pass the message on to any number of my email contacts, messages that have been sent and resent about missing children, stolen USPS uniforms and the like meant to cause a panic (visit www.snopes.com) to check on these crazy stories.

2.   Email messages with nothing in the subject line.  -  Heck, that is what the subject line is for, tell me what the message is about!

3.  People who call and don’t leave voice messages.  -  No, I’m not going to call you back simply because I saw you number on caller id.  Leave a message and tell me why you are calling.

4.  People who call me back without listening to the message that I’ve left, simply because they saw my number on the caller id.  – I left you a message for a reason, listen to it!  You could be wasting both of our time with unnecessary phone tag.

5.  People who have voice mail mailboxes that are so full, no additional messages can be left.   -   This is just wrong.

6.  Slow adopters -  Can you believe in this day and age there are people who don’t check their emails regularly or worse yet, don’t have email at all?  Disgusting!

7.  Rude cellular phone behavior.  -  Loud talking in public places, being interrupted by loud ring tones, you know the type.

What about technology annoys you?
